Hakou Ishitobi
Calligrapher. Born in Hokkaido. In 1960, he entered the calligraphy department of Tokyo Gakugei University, where he studied under Kaneko Otei. After moving to Tokyo, he began learning the basic classics of calligraphy from his teacher Otei, and energetically worked on creating "poetic texts" that could be read by anyone as advocated by his teacher.
Since then, he has published many introductory books and commentaries on calligraphy. He has also made numerous appearances in various media and written many logo titles, including an appearance on NHK's Hobby Yuuyuu. His goal is to create works that combine sophisticated modern expression with legibility as characters.
