Joan Miró (Catalan: Joan Miró i Ferrà [ʒuˈan miˈɾo i fəˈra], Juan Miró i Ferrà, 1893 April 20 - December 25, 1983) was a Spanish painter of the 20th century. He was born in Catalonia. In the past, since languages other than Castilian were officially banned in Spain (under the Franco regime), he is often written Juan Miró in the Castilian style of reading. Today, it is customary to write "Joan Miró" or "Juan Miró" to respect the original Catalan pronunciation.

However, the organic forms of his intensely deformed figures and birds, the intense use of primary colors, and the overflowing sense of life in his paintings are different from those of other Surrealists, who often use classical and realistic painting techniques. His style is completely different from that of other Surrealists, who often use classical and realistic painting techniques, and has established a unique position in 20th-century art.
