Rouault

Rouault

【Deux pierrots】

Georges Rouault (May 27, 1871 - February 13, 1958) was a French painter of the 19th and 20th centuries, classified as Fauvism.

Although Rouault is often classified as a Fauvist painter because he was a classmate of Henri Matisse and others at the Paris School of Fine Arts, Rouault himself was a solitary painter who was distinct from "painting circles" and "schools" and devoted himself to the pursuit of his own art.

This work, "Deux pierrots" (both new recruits), was painted in 1939.
