Banksy
(Western style painter)
Banksy is a British street artist, political activist and film director. His real name and identity are unknown and there is much speculation. He has been active since the 1990s, painting graffiti using a unique stencil technique and leaving satirical works with political and social messages on walls and bridges around the world. He is said to have been influenced by Bristol's underground scene and has stated that he was inspired by 3D, a member of the music group Massive Attack. He does not officially sell his work, which sometimes fetches high prices at auctions and museums. He directed the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop in 2010, which was nominated for an Academy Award.
